LickiMat Recipe- Sweet Potato and Coconut Rice Pudding

This gorgeous pet treat recipe mirrors the flavour of the classic human desert- rice pudding, however it features an irresistible tropical twist. This delicious recipe is made from natural ingredients which are also safe for human consumption, in case you too are dying to try it!

It's laced with the luxurious flavour of coconut and sweetened with delectable notes of sweet potato. Finally, your pet's absolute favourite flavour; the nutty taste of peanut butter stirred together in a rich bundle of rice. Not only does this recipe (inspired by the flavours of Thailand and Bali) taste amazing, there are some brilliant health benefits for you and your pet.

I always like to add this little disclaimer to the start of these recipes to help inform new pet owners. Although these ingredients are pet safe, it does not necessarily mean that your pet will react well to all foods. It is important to know your pet and its breed well because just like humans it is possible for pets to have allergies and intolerance. For example, some really common ingredients used in pet foods include chicken and salmon, however my little French Bulldog is intolerant to both. Just be cautious and aware of how your pet reacts to different foods.

Coconut has been in the health food spotlight for some time now thanks to it's voluptuous full bodied flavour. For pets coconut helps to boost metabolism, improve digestion and acts as a source of slow release energy. It can also help to protect your pets against illness. As you may already guess, the nutritionally rich coconut can also be excellent for conditioning, repairing and moisturising your pets skin and coat. Just as many of your favourite conditioners, smoothies and fragrances are likely to contain coconut, your pet is bound to love it just as much.

Pets are obsessed with the creamy taste of sweet potato, and this is definitely not a bad thing thanks to its nutritious qualities. Sweet potato is high in fibre, low in fat and rich in vitamin B6, C, manganese and beta-carotene which acts as a powerful antioxidant. Adding a little sweet potato to your pet's diet can improve vision, skin, coat, growth and strength.

Peanut butter is often a pet's favourite flavour which is packed with protein and healthy fats. It is important however, that you choose a peanut butter which is safe for your pet, this means that you wont want to use one which includes added sugar and Xylitol. Artificial sweeteners can be harmful to dogs and cats, even in small amounts.

To make a tasty treat, LickiMats only take about 2 or 3 heap tablespoons to cover and you can use way less. The ingredient quantities make enough filler for about 4 LickiMats. The leftover I keep in the fridge or portion out and put in the freezer. If you have more than one LickiMat, you can load them up and stick them in the freezer ready to go.

This recipe works amazingly when spread across LickiMat Playdate or the LickiMat Buddy. Through the use of four simple ingredients, we are about to create the most mouth watering pet treat, all you will need is:
230g boiled or steamed rice
1 large boiled or steamed sweet potato (1 and 1/2 if working with smaller sweet potatoes).
1 tablespoon peanut butter
120ml of coconut milk

Blend all your ingredients and mix until smooth. Scoop onto your LickiMat with a silicone spatula or back of a spoon and smooth it into the mat's ridges. Voila! It's ready for your pet to enjoy.
This recipe can be frozen or kept in the fridge for up to four days.
