LickiMat Recipes- Smashed Sardine Pate

Are you ready to learn how to make this luxurious yet simple two ingredient, pet safe sardine pate for your posh pet?

I always like to add this little disclaimer to the start of these recipes to help inform new pet owners. Although these ingredients are pet safe, it does not necessarily mean that your pet will react well to all foods. It is important to know your pet and its breed well because just like humans it is possible for pets to have allergies and intolerance. For example, some really common ingredients used in pet foods include chicken and salmon, however my little French Bulldog is intolerant to both. Just be cautious and aware of how your pet reacts to different foods.
Sardines are incredibly good for you and oily fish plays a strong part in a tradition Mediterranean diet. Research has shown that this diet reduces the risk of heart disease.

We are going to be using canned sardines which are packed with tasty goodness. These little fishes are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, calcium, iron magnesium and potassium; just to name a few. Not only do nutritionists swear by this for human well being, it also has some delightful benefits to your pets. Although humans can be a little fussy, pets just love these yummy fish.

Cottage cheese is our second ingredient which is high in calcium however you can also use low fat versions of cream cheese or quark.

Oily recipes work amazingly on LickiMats as they leave behind a flavoursome residue which is sure to keep your pet engaged for longer. This recipe should make around 3 portions depending on the size of your pet. The LickiMat Buddy works great  here. You will need:

2 cans of sardines which you will need to drain (use plain sardines in spring water)

110g of cottage cheese

Add your two ingredients to a bowl and smash up the sardines while combining with cottage cheese. This recipe will not be smooth like the others, don't worry this exactly what it should be like. Place around two heaps of this mixture onto your LickiMat and smooth it down a little with the back of the spoon. This can be kept in the fridge for up to about 3 days, or can be frozen for later.
