LickiMat Recipes- Nutty Banana Smoothie

So, you are looking for a guilt free treat which is not too calorific for your pet? Look no further. This recipe is packed full of fruit and veg which is sure to aid digestion, hydrate your pet and provide a source of fibre.

I always like to add this little disclaimer to the start of these recipes to help inform new pet owners. Although these ingredients are pet safe, it does not necessarily mean that your pet will react well to all foods. It is important to know your pet and its breed well because just like humans it is possible for pets to have allergies and intolerance. For example, some really common ingredients used in pet foods include chicken and salmon, however my little French Bulldog is intolerant to both. Just be cautious and aware of how your pet reacts to different foods.

Many nuts are a big no no when it comes to pets however hazelnuts are actually a good source of unsaturated fats, magnesium, Vitamin A and E. Because of this, hazelnuts can be beneficial to your pet's heart, muscles, skin, joints and bones. It has also been suggested that hazelnuts can help to reduce the risk of cancer.

And now for the star of the show, the banana. This delicious ingredient is highly nutritious and a definite pet favourite. The banana is rich in calcium, potassium, iron. Your pet is sure to thank you for this one

Today's simple recipe features banana, ground hazelnuts and soy milk. Often pets are able to digest soy milk very well in comparison to cows milk which frequently presents tummy problems. Commercial pet food often turns to soy milk as it is calcium rich and packed full of protein.

The LickiMat buddy works very well with this recipe however, if you are waiting for your LickiMat to arrive, another alternative could be to freeze this treat in order to transform it into a delicious pet safe ice cream. You will need:

250ml of soy milk

A couple of hazelnuts or and tablespoon of organic hazelnut spread (be aware of the other ingredients included in shop bought hazelnut spreads).

1 medium banana

Blend all of these ingredients together. You can toy around with your quantities of soy milk and banana to alter the texture to your liking.

This mix should serve 2 LickiMats. The second serving can be frozen until needed or kept in the fridge for a few days.
